With two decades of experience, Dr. Raphael James has adeptly steered one of Nigeria’s premier research centers, forging collaborations with numerous Nigerian media organizations and global universities.
BACKGROUND
Dr. James holds the position of Director General at the Center For Research, Information, and Media Development (CRIMMD). He has served as a Special Assistant (Research) to the Presidency in Abuja and as a Media Assistant to the Governor of Abia State. Recognized among the top 5 enterprising Africans in the last quarter of 2016, Dr. James has interviewed seven world presidents, engaged with the families of 14 African leaders, and explored 33 of Nigeria’s 36 states. He’s documented over 510 tourist sites in Nigeria alone. As a prolific writer, he’s penned 59 manuscripts and published 24 books, and is honored as the Patron of the Association of Nigerian Authors in Lagos State.
Dr. James has been named among Nigeria’s Top 100 Tourism Personalities and Top 100 Social Media Influencers. He served on the Think-Tank group led by Professor Tekena Nitonye Tamuno for the Nigeria @ 100 Committee in 2014.
His commendations are numerous; as of August 25, 2023, he has been conferred with 238 awards. Notable accolades include “SDLG Africa’s Most Reliable Person” in 2016, and recognition from nations including the UK, US, United Arab Republic, China, and countries within Africa. Letters of appreciation have been sent by global figures such as US President Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth of England, and President Barack Obama.
ABOUT CRIMMD
Located in Lagos, CRIMMD operates a free public library that has been in service since 2004. In 2018, they erected the world’s tallest Christmas book tree, constructed from 5,073 books and standing at 12.2 feet. CRIMMD’s research has shed light on various facets of Nigerian history, including the discovery of the Nigerian Coat of Arms’ designer, 60 years post-independence. Their investigative prowess has unveiled details about the amalgamation of Nigeria, the Aba women’s riot, and significant locations related to Nigeria’s history.
CRIMMD publishes three magazines: ‘The African Dame,’ ‘The National Biographer,’ and ‘The Art Magazine.’ It boasts Nigeria’s most comprehensive private museum, housing over 45,000 photos and a plethora of artifacts and memorabilia. Since 2008, CRIMMD has donated more than 53,000 books to promote reading culture.
Further, CRIMMD operates a Skill Acquisition Center for Women. By the close of December 2021, they had trained over 7,771 women in various vocations, free of charge. However, the center currently faces spatial constraints, limiting its expansion and the display of its rich museum collection.
OTHER ENGAGEMENTS
Dr. James leads Policy and Advocacy at the Tourism Management Institute of Nigeria (TWIN) and is a nominee for the Vice Presidency of the Institute’s Executive Council Board. Additionally, he is a member of the International Association of African Authors and Scholars-Professional Development Institute (IAAAS-PDI) in the USA.
