Born in 1971 in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, to late Elder Udoaka Mathew Umontuen and Deaconess Alice Udoaka Umontuen, he embodies the spirit of excellence and dedication in everything he does. Dr. Umontuen’s educational background is vast and impressive. He attended Lutheran Primary School Nung Oku Ekanem, Government Secondary School Afaha Eket, and Science School Ndon Eyo before obtaining a National Diploma in Mathematics and Statistics from the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa State. He went on to earn a Higher National Diploma in Statistics from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, followed by a BSc and Master’s Degree in Education Management and Planning from Imo State University. Dr. Umontuen’s thirst for knowledge led him to obtain a Doctoral Fellowship in Entrepreneurship and Technical Education from the University College of Christian Mission (UCCL), United States of America.

Dr. Umontuen’s achievements go beyond academia. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants Nigeria, Fellow of the Institute of Management Specialists, and Doctoral Fellow of the National Association for the Advancement of Knowledge. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International, showcasing his commitment to service and philanthropy.

As a pioneer in education, Dr. Umontuen founded Maurid Polytechnic in 2009 and served as the institution’s pioneer Rector until 2021. He further expanded his impact by establishing the College of Nursing Sciences Obohia Ndoki in Abia State in 2021, and more recently, Maurid College of Nursing Sciences in Mbiaso Akwa Ibom State, licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. His dedication to advancing nursing education in Nigeria has inspired a generation of nurses and midwives, and his innovative approach to education has raised the bar for nursing education in the country.
